Excuse this adorable cartoon, I had a hard time finding a parasite picture that I could stand looking at while writing this post!
This past week there has been an amazing Parasite Summit hosted by Dr. Jay Davidson available to the public. If you were not able to listen in, you will definitely want to look at these key notes!
Did you know that parasites are a much more epidemic crisis here in the United States than most people believe? Many people think that parasitic infections are only a problem in other countries but that simply is not true.
According to the CDC millions are affected by parasites in the United States.
Where would I get parasites?
Parasites are all around us, and there is really no way of avoiding them. We can be exposed to them through:
How do I know if I have a parasite?
Some experts believe that everyone that has a pulse has a parasite. Testing for parasites is always an option. Ask for a stool test that uses DNA to detect parasites and other pathogens. Not everyone will detect the same symptoms from parasites, here are a few signs.
Muscle and joint pain and stiffness
Itching around the anus
Skin rashes/ hives
Heavy metal exposure
Trouble absorbing certain vitamins and minerals
Chemical imbalances in the brain
Shortness of breath
Making connections between parasites and other health concerns
If you have reoccurring health concerns that do not go away despite your best efforts, you need to understand how parasite can reduce the body's ability to heal. There are a few ways that parasites can really be blocking your progress.
1- Parasites form a complex community with other pathogens.
Not only do parasites use us as host, taking energy and oxygen from our cells, they also are host to smaller pathogens. Yeast and harmful bacteria can live inside of parasites making it nearly impossible for us to completely rid our bodies of these invaders without first eliminating parasites. If you have been in an ongoing battle with issues such as Candida or Lyme disease, parasite testing may be the missing link between you and optimal health.
2- Parasites and Heavy Metals
While small pathogens can be living inside of parasites, heavy metals also play a part in this community. Parasites can absorb heavy metals, making it difficult to detox or detect during testing.
3- Your Immune System
Parasites are a constant stressor on your immune system, increasing the amount of histamine that is released. This can make everything more permeable which results in increase sensitivities to things such as food and environmental toxins.
What if I already did a parasite cleanse but it was not helpful?
Parasites are not easy things to get rid of! You have to remember that a parasite is anything that feeds off of a host. In this case you are the host, and the parasite will do its best to make sure it does not get evicted.
Many parasite cleanses simply are either not strong enough, or not done for a long enough period. Unfortunately, if the cleanse is not strong enough, it only upsets the parasites, making them hold on even stronger.
Anytime you do a parasite cleanse, there are multiple steps that need to be addressed. Making sure that your bodies elimination pathways are not blocked is going to be step one. Supporting a healthy digestive system and creating a clean environment in the gut through diet and supplementation is the next step. Finally, herbs can be used to help reduce parasites protective shell (biofilm), and kill the parasites. Binders will help to take released toxins out of the body.
Where to go from here?
If all of this is sounding a little too close to home, it is time to do some further investigating.
